MY Camper Eugen Hruska: Nature’s way to solve problems
17-year-old Eugen Hruska studies biochemistry at the University Regensburg in Germany. “Nature solves virtually effortlessly very complicated tasks,” says Eugen, who is also interested in biophysics.

”I believe I will meet many talented young people and learn from them and their ideas. Furthermore, I want get to know better successful scientists and their way to success, since the step from being talented to successful isn’t always easy,” says 17-year-old Eugen Hruska from Germany about his expectations from MY Camp 2012.
“I have always been inspired by successful people. Not only the science fascinates me but also their whole life,” he adds, and says that the source of inspiration can equally be a famous scientist like Feynman or more advanced student at the University.
Eugen applied for MY Camp also last year, and this year he reached the top 30. “From my first impression, I thought it’s cool. The special concept holds many opportunities,” he recollects his feelings while stumbling on a link to Millennium Youth Camp’s website over a year ago.
During the application process for MY Camp 2012, Eugen chose the theme of Renewable Energy and Natural Resources, and did his project plan on biofuel production. “I have always been fascinated by the nature itself. Not only it’s beautiful, but it solves virtually effortlessly very complicated tasks”, he says about the starting point for the project.
During the past four years, Eugen has participated in several International Science Olympiads and through them his love for science has grown deeper. “One pro of competitions for me was that I could try various fields of science ranging from informatics to biology and find out what’s it about and if I really like it. Now I think I like the most topics between physics and biology,” he says, and adds that Biophysics graduate program at California Technology Institute is something he would like to pursue in the near future. “My future will have surely quite much to do with science.”
But the life of an aspiring scientist also requires counterbalance, so during his spare time Eugen likes to swim regularly, travel and take pictures.

Like during the previous years, MyScience will introduce each MY Camper and offer news, videos and photos during the Camp. Stay tuned, but in the meantime watch videos and photos from MY Camp 2010 and MY Camp 2011.
