Millennium Youth Camp will be held, for the third time, this June in Helsinki Capital region. The camp will again gather 30 talented 16 to 19-year-olds interested in mathematics, natural sciences and ICT to learn about Finnish expertise in science, visit local companies and universities, and to have a memorable week.
This year the record number of 1621 young people from 107 countries applied for the Camp. Hundred of them were chosen for the second round of the application process during which they will have to write a project plan. The project themes vary this year from urban hydrological cycle to ICT in education and from global climate observation network to mathematical analysis behind vaccination programs.
The work continues during the Camp, which culminates in MY Camp Gala during which the projects of each group: Applied Mathematics, ICT, Water, Climate Change and Renewable Natural Resources and Energy will be presented. Another highlight of MY Camp 2012 will be the Millennium Technology Prize award ceremony. The 800,000-euro Millennium Prize is awarded every other year for life-enhancing technological innovations, and MY Campers get to meet this year’s Prize Laureates.
The hundred most successful applicants have now a month to impress the MY Camp steering group with their project plans. The final decision on the 30 Campers will be announced 15 March.
