In addition, the needs and hopes of the students should be in core as they are making the decisions in the future.<\/p>\n<p>M.Sc. Jaana Herranen presented her <a href=\"https:\/\/helda.helsinki.fi\/handle\/10138\/307584\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PhD dissertation <\/a>on learner driven science teacher education for sustainability in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helsinki.fi\/en\/researchgroups\/seco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SECO research group<\/a>. The thesis was written in the Unit of Teacher Education with the guidance of <a href=\"https:\/\/researchportal.helsinki.fi\/en\/persons\/maija-aksela\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">professor Maija Aksela<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Erik_Fooladi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">associate professor Erik Fooladi<\/a>. The opponent was <a href=\"http:\/\/forskning.mah.se\/en\/id\/lujesj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">associate professor Jesper Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m\u00a0<\/a>from the Malm\u00f6 University, Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>The thesis argues that learner-centred and learner-driven sustainability education are different constructs, and examined the possibilities and challenges of those approaches. It was noticed that higher education students can plan courses and parts of courses in which they can take the relevant aspects of e.g. sustainability and inquiry in account, although they also faced challenges in their student-led collaborative planning.
