{"id":1228,"date":"2019-04-16T16:04:11","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T13:04:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.myscience.fi\/en\/?p=1228"},"modified":"2019-04-16T16:05:54","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T13:05:54","slug":"new-international-course-for-high-school-students-to-develop-solutions-to-global-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myscience.fi\/en\/news\/2019\/04\/16\/new-international-course-for-high-school-students-to-develop-solutions-to-global-challenges\/","title":{"rendered":"New in\u00adter\u00adna\u00adtional course for high school stu\u00addents to de\u00adve\u00adlop solu\u00adtions to global chal\u00adlenges"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The University of Helsinki Science Education Centre (a part of the LUMA Centre Finland network) organizes a new international and multidisciplinary Global Challenges Course for Youth  2019 from around the world during the summer and early autumn 2019,  mostly online and partly in Helsinki, Finland.                                            <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the course, youth  will make a small learning project in team to develop a solution to a  global challenge, with the support of the university&#8217;s young scientists and under the guidance of teacher students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, the selected global challenges are<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>climate change,<\/li><li>digitalization,&nbsp;<\/li><li>energy, and<\/li><li>wellbeing.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the communal learning takes place in the online environment, but at the intensive period in Helsinki on early August, the participants have the opportunity to meet each other and the young researchers and discuss the research with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course introduces students to study and research opportunities in different disciplines at the University of Helsinki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The versatile programme of the course is designed more specifically on the basis of the interests by the applicants and the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course is international and the working language is&nbsp;English.&nbsp;The course is equivalent to 1 ECTS, i.e. ca. 27 hours.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Application deadline for the course is Sunday, <strong>May 12th<\/strong>. Up to 20 participants are selected for the course. All applicants will be notified of the results of the selection on Monday, May 20th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The service fee&nbsp;of the course is&nbsp;20 EUR&nbsp;(incl.
