Borrowable equipment

Local LUMA Centres offer a range of equipment, work instructions, and games for loan to support teaching and learning. Detailed instructions and guidance for using the equipment are often available (in Finnish). If the item you’re looking for is not listed, feel free to contact your local LUMA Centre by email. Many centres may also lend standard laboratory equipment, even if not explicitly listed.

Please note that we only borrow materials for schools in Finland. We do not send or ship equipment abroad.

Helsinki 

  • We lend out various tools and materials, including: Carbon tree kit, Equipment for chemical investigations, Tools for field studies, Grain size samples
  • Pickup and return at the University of Helsinki, Kumpula Campus.

Joensuu 

  • Available for loan: Vernier sensors for physics and chemistry (computers available if needed), Problem-solving games, Visualization tools for mathematics, Physics school lab equipment (e.g., mechanics, sound, thermophysics), Microscopes (light and USB), Small sets of construction kits (e.g., Polydrons, Geomag), Micro:bit microcontrollers for programming education, LEGO EV3 kits, LUMA boxes for early childhood education (comprehensive science-themed research packages with instructions)
  • Most equipment from the LUMA laboratory is also available for loan.

Turku 

  • Available for loan: “Measured Me” – tools for studying the human body, Water measurement equipment, Egg microscopes, Forest research tools, a Mars-themed escape game kit, Electrophoresis equipment for upper secondary schools, and the LUMA box for early childhood and primary education (includes instructions and materials for small science investigations). Instructions for “Measured Me,” water measurement, and egg microscopes are also available in Swedish.
  • Equipment can be mailed anywhere in Finland. Otherwise, pickup and return can be arranged at the University of Turku.
  • Mobile lab materials are also available in Swedish.
