Meet the world in the Helsinki Summer School

This August, the Helsinki Summer School will again provide international students with the opportunity to try out Finnish university studies with its three-week summer courses. Apply now!

This year marks the 15th annual Helsinki Summer School. The courses cover several disciplines and are offered by different universities. The participating universities for the second year in a row will be the University of Helsinki, Aalto University and the Hanken School of Economics. University of Helsinki students can also apply.

Students from around the world

Last summer, approximately 400 students from over 60 countries took part in the courses organised by the Helsinki Summer School. Interesting courses, the good reputation of the participating universities and a desire for adventure are among the factors attracting students to the summer school.

Céline from France ended up in Finland after looking for something interesting to do in the summer. The course Introduction to Bioethics was the perfect answer.

“Instead of doing nothing between terms, I get to meet new people and gather material for my research,” Céline enthuses.

Céline cites the equality of Finnish academic culture as a highlight of her experience. She believes this encourages interactive learning and critical thinking among students.

“At the University of Helsinki, you’re allowed to criticise. As the motto of the Helsinki Summer School says, thinking is allowed.”

Wide range of disciplines

The courses of the Helsinki Summer School range from law and bioethics to marketing and culture studies. Each three-week course offers 5–6 credits worth of studies.

The application period for this year’s Helsinki Summer School is already underway. More information on available courses and application instructions are available on the Summer School’s website . Interviews with Céline and other students can also be found on the Helsinki Summer School alumni website.
